Blessings by Pastor Kate Schlechter
As Oct. 4 is the Feast of Francis of Assisi, who died in 1226. Although Francis was born into the family of a wealthy merchant, he gave up his inheritance to serve poor people. Francis had a spirit of gratitude for all of God's creation and is considered the Patron Saint of all animals and of the ecology, based upon several sentences in his Canticle such as “May you be praised Lord in all your creatures”.
In honor of Saint Francis, Zion's Lutheran will share a blessing of the animals at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, in the fenced- lawn portion of Zion’s Lutheran Church. Please bring your animals on a leash or in a crate or cage for a blessing and a few pet treats and help us observe this festive occasion! If your pet cannot join us in person, bring a photo or their favorite "stuffie".
After the blessings, participants (human and non-human) are invited to mingle, play, and enjoy refreshments offered by Zion’s Lutheran Church.
