For many years, Zion’s Lutheran Church has worked to ensure that people who are looking for a church home know that when Zion’s claims everyone is welcome, they know that we mean everyone.
Our hope is that people feel genuinely welcomed and included here. We want people to be able to say that Zion’s feels “like home” to them, as it does for so many in our church family.
Since 1983, the Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Program has been a public way for faith communities to see, name, celebrate, and advocate for people of every race & culture, age & ability, family structure & economic status, and every sexual orientation, gender identity, & gender expression.
After a year of introspection, conversation, and a congregational vote about proceeding with the RIC process, on Sunday, Nov. 24, the congregation of Zion’s Lutheran Church voted overwhelmingly to become a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) church partner.
The purpose of the RIC designation is to help communicate to visitors and potential members what a “welcome to Zion’s” truly means.
It serves to remind all of us that we are children of God, saved by grace, who support and love our siblings in Christ. We want people to know that we embrace the uniqueness of every individual and respect their dignity and worth, for all are created in the image of God.
